Tools: Define Projection, Measure
Objective: the purpose of this project was to understand issues that arise when working with spatial data from multiple sources with different projections. This project focused on identifying and resolving projection problems, selecting appropriate projections for different regions, and measuring distortions in different projections.
The layout created in this lab displays a main figure of Texas, with two inset maps: one showing the entire USA and the other focusing on Hays County, Texas. The US figure is displayed using the Lambert Conformal Conic projection, the Texas figure is displayed using the NAD83 UTM Zone 14N projection, and the Hays County figure is displayed using the NAD83 StatePlane Texas Central FIPS 4204 projection. Each of these projections were selected to preserve the shape of the figures.
Tools: Georeference, KML to layer, Create Features, Join, Add Field/Calculate Field, Buffer, Select by Attribute
Objective: the purpose of this project was to learn how to collect spatial data using Google Earth Pro, ArcGIS Field Maps, and a GPS device, georeference images, and digitize points, lines, and polygons.
Tools: Geostatistical Wizard, Create Chart, Cross Validation
Objective: the purpose of this project was to learn to apply three interpolation techniques (IDW, Polynomial, and Radial Basis Function) to predict continuous surfaces from point data.
Tools: Display XY Data, Add Field/Calculate Field, Merge, Definition Query, Average Nearest Neighbor, Mean Center, Standard Distance, Directional Distribution, Spatial Join, Optimized Hotspot Analysis
Objective: the purpose of this project was to understand the spatio-temporal variability of crime occurrences in Austin, Texas by performing spatial analyses such as average nearest neighbor, mean center, standard distance, and directional distribution. Students also use spatial joins to calculate crime density and conduct an optimized hot spot analysis to identify statistically significant crime clusters.
For this project, I specifically conducted analysis on theft and aggravated assault data.
